Year 3

Welcome to Year 3's Homepage.

Over the next half term, Year 3 will be starting our unit of work in our science topic ‘Shake It’.

This unit of work is part of the International Primary Curriculum. This curriculum

sets out very clearly what children will learn – the learning goals – in three different

areas:

1. The subjects of the curriculum. The learning goals for each of these subjects are at least as challenging as anything taught in the curriculum. In many cases, the learning goals are more challenging.

2. Personal development – the characteristics which will help children become more responsible, independent learners.

3. International understanding – which will help children develop both a sense of the independence of their own country and culture and the interdependence between countries and cultures.

English

In English this term, we are reading Running Wild by Michael Morpurgo. Using the story for inspiration, we will create narratives, diary entries, persuasive letters, instruction texts and non-chronological reports. The skills we will be learning for our writing are present and past tenses, sentence ending punctuation, commas, apostrophes and appropriate determiners.

Maths

In Maths this term, we will be consolidating our understanding of using column method to solve addition and subtraction. This will build on our understanding of place value. In multiplication, we will be focusing on our knowledge of the 2, 5, 10, 3, 4 and 8 timetables. Year 3 will also be looking at division through sharing, grouping and using arrays.
