Year 3

Welcome to Year 3's Homepage.

Over the next half term, Year 3 will be starting a 3 week unit on ‘Brain Wave’. The children will be learning about the human brain and how to learn effectively. This will be followed by a unit of work called ‘How Humans Work’.

In English this term, we are reading Varjak Paw by SF Said. Using the story as inspiration, we will create narratives, diary entries, persuasive letters, instruction texts and non-chronological reports. The skills we will be learning for our writing are present and past tenses, sentence ending punctuation, commas, apostrophes and appropriate determiners.

In Maths this term, we will be consolidating our understanding of place value up to 1,000, as well as exploring written methods for addition and subtraction. We will also be ordering and sequencing numbers and learning our 4 times table.

In Science this term, we are exploring how nutrients help improve brain power. We will be using scientific predictions to inform our investigations. The bodily systems we will focus on will be the skeletal, muscular and digestive systems. We will also explore the importance of teeth.
