Year 4
Hello! We are Year 4. We have two classes: 4A and 4L. 4A are taught by Miss Attrup with the support of Mrs Urquhart and 4L are taught by Mr Larkin with the support of Miss Butlin. We are always at the door at drop off and pick up time, so please do ask us questions or speak to us about any issues at those times. We want the best for our children so if you do have any questions or concerns and would like to arrange a telephone call or meeting, please do get in touch and we would be happy to coordinate.
On Tuesday 7th February, Y4 will be going to the Horniman Museum where we will be taking part in a Pond Dipping workshop, as well as visiting the aquarium and the butterfly house. We are very excited about this and hope the children are too. Thank you to all of the parents who have kindly volunteered to help us on the day.
At the end of Y4, our children will sit a MTC (Multiplication Times Table Check) and so we would love your support in helping your children to learn their multiplications. We recommend logging onto Times Table Rockstars at least 3 times a week and completing a Soundcheck. A Soundcheck is the most similar form of test to the MTC and so the more experience they have of completing these tests, the easier they should find the MTC and the less anxious they should feel about it too!
We also want all of children to love reading. Please do try to listen to your children read at least 3 times a week at home. The more experience they have of reading aloud, and sounding out more challenging words, the more fluent and confident they will become. Reading can come in any form: chapter books, newspaper articles, takeaway menus, match reports… Find what they love to read and celebrate their achievements!
Our P.E. days are:
4A – Thursday and Friday
4L – Wednesday and Thursday
Science
Our topic this half term is Land, Sea and Sky. This is a geography and science based topic and so we will be looking at maps and learning how to interpret geographical features before learning about the water cycle and water animals and their habitats. Our trip to the Horniman Museum will be a lovely opportunity for the children to share their knowledge so far and develop their learning further.
English
In English, we are focusing on a book called ‘The Polar Bear Explorers' club’. We will be using the book as inspiration for our own writing and begin to write for different purposes and audiences. These will include poetry, newspaper reports, diary entries and descriptive writing.
Maths
In Maths, we will be looking at area and multiplication. We will also be developing our understanding of multiples and inverse functions. As our times table assessment occurs at the end of this year, we will be regularly practicing our times tables to develop our fluency.
