IPC - Space Explorers

Our new IPC unit for this half term is Space Explorers. As part of this unit, we will be learning about the space race to the moon. We will be focusing on what countries were involved in the space race, what they individually achieved and how their achievements and discoveries have contributed to our understanding of Space today.

In English, we will be focusing our learning on the Power of Reading book Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce. We will be writing diary entries from the main character's perspective, descriptive stories about visiting other planets, and factual  writing about real American and Soviet space explorers - incorporating relative clauses, subordinating conjunctions, and parenthesis throughout.

In Maths this half term we will be focusing our learning on statistics. We will be learning how to interpret and draw line graphs and using this information to solve problems. We will be understanding how to read data presented in two-way tables and reading timetables to calculate journey times.

As part of our Earth and Space topic in science, we will be exploring the sun, the moon and the different planets in our galaxy. We will be investigating and learning about where the planets are in relation to the sun and what the conditions are like on these planets.
